Final Fitting

Full View of front

We did a final fitting this afternoon.  I did a few more skirt adjustments.  I lowered the first black ruffle on the skirt which made the bodice sit smoothly.  I tacked the side pleats down about one inch.   Normally I would tack them longer….but I chose to not cut the ruffles inside the pleats so I was limited on the length.  I had to leave space for the ruffles to be tucked into those pleats.  Ultimately that will be good for future alterations because the skirt can really be made larger.

I changed the photo here to one from the feis.  It’s not the best, as the hill just makes things weird, but this is the finished cape.  Plus now that she has danced in it, we know that it works just fine and does not need any velcro or a pin….although a pretty Tara brooch might look nice!  (added 7/1/09)

For the cape I will be tacking down the bottom so it comes to a point.  Once she dances in it, I’ll see if I have to also add some velcro to the bottom to hold it down.  Can’t tell just how much it will swing around.  I’ll bring a pin for that first feis outing!

The other thing I will still do is put some shoulder pads in.  The child is very slope shouldered.  I wanted to do some shoulder pleats, but the pattern is so perfect it is hard to find the extra fabric in the sleeve!  But I think some very thin pads will give just a tad of needed lift there.  I’m open to suggestions on that one.

Overall she is very happy and I am as well.   Yippeeeeeeee!!!
